A Few noob questions about new used 06 vibe

Post by Bender6681 »

1st i have the 7 piece monsoon system. 2nd, is the 7 piece system with monsoon sub and 6 disc changer the moon and tunes or the sun and sound package? 3nd, does the amp under the seat power all 7 speakers at 2 ohm or just the doors and tweets? D, I have been reading about people having gain problems when hooking up after market head units, could you just use the preamp outs on the head unit and not have to buy on of these http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1...=2001. Last, what are the specs of the monsoon system? (watts, ohm, ect)

Wow lots of questions for a first post.Let me see if I can helpfirst 03-05 had the moon and toon system, the 06 up have the sun and sound... same system just a different name i think the 06 up came standard with the sub.All the speakers are 2ohmNo you won't be able to use the preamp out on the schosche.I have the same unit in my car, which by the way just took a nose dive on me, so I need to replace it you will need to use the speaker in's and out'slastly I can't help with the specs on the system.

thanks for the super fast reply. rhw preamp question, could i use preamp out to factory wiring straight to the factory amp without using the schosche at all? What i want to do is upgrade the HU, Speakers, and Sub but i want to start at the front and work my way back slowly. I would love to use the stock amp for it all if possible.

You'd need to replace the amp if you want to use them from your head unit.

I found this wiring pin-out http://tinyurl.com/bender6681 If you look under Premium Sound Amplifier pins 11,12 and 25,26 say they go to the same thing. Is the correct? I would think one set is for the sub. Also @AdmRose i thought that the preamp out on the head unit was the same as line level. I understand that the factory amp does not have rca inputs but would it still not work if i made my own rca to bare wire cable and hooked it all up at the factory wiring harness behind the head unit?

I had always assumed the factory sub received signal from the stock Moon and tunes amp, I was under the assumption that signal would be sent to another amplifier that powered the woofer. I am alos unsure though because I never messed with the factory sub in the Vibe as I don't have it The factory amp uses high level inputs. the difference between the 2 is the output voltage the radio will put out when playing. using the preamp from the aftermarket radio may work but you will probably get little to no volume as there isn't enough voltage to drive the factory amp. Easy solution would be to just use the Scosche piece you will still retain sub with that.
Vibe is gone and will be missed as I've gone country style

Ok i just got off of the phone with crutchfield tech support to see if they had any info. It seems the the pins 11 and 12 from the amp are not really there, pins 25 and 26 are for the rear door. Also he said that he looked at the review teams handwritten notes and found that there is no pinout for the sub. it is a 6 3/4 inch dvc wired in parallel with the rear outs from the amp. I am not great at this but wouldnt you need something like an 8 ohm dvc and 2 8 ohm SVC speakers to get the 2 ohm load in parallel for the amp output to the rear speakers. But i cant find may 8 ohm speakers so thats strange. i dont know. this is way too confusing for me.
