07 Highlander Remotely unlocking on its own

Post by spiffy1001 »

I have a 2007 Highlander, it has been unlocking on its own all night every 3-5 seconds. If I hit the lock button it will stop for about 10 minutes or so. I went out and turned the car off and on about 3 AM, didn't do much good except for starting the car alarm and waking up all my neighbors. I took both remotes out and made sure nothing was touching the button. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

I had a 2005 Chevy Malibu and the drivers side automatic lock switch was broken and stuck in the up (unlock) position. Holding the drivers side automatic lock in the up position while idling in park was the way to cycle the security system. Meaning that if you held it there for so long the horn would beep and at that point when you used the fob to unlock the doors the horn would beep. If you held it up again the horn would beep and then if you used the fob to unlock the doors the horn would not beep. It was an option to choose if you wanted your horn to beep during locking/unlocking. The problem was every time I sat at idle in park the system would cycle and my horn would beep. It was an annoyance. Maybe there is something similar going on with your locks and or switches, that was the first thing that I thought of given my experience.

Try pulling the batteries out of both remotes... If that doesn't work, it's more likely in the car or a new signal in the neighborhood?

my GF's POS Subaru has had major problems with door locks that like to lock and unlock themselves. in her case, there is a design flaw that lets moisture into the door panel if it's wet outside or if she goes through a car wash, or even just parks near a pond or lake. tech tried everything including replacing all the component. eventually, they just put a crapload of silicone caulk around the electronics in the door, which has reduced the random locking and unlocking by about 2/3. it's still fun to be driving along in the rain, hearing the power locks lock and unlock about 10,000 times on a crosstown trip...

SublimeWind and VforVibe win. There was water in the keychain remote that was making it go off. Apparently my wife ran in through the washing machine the other day and forgot to mention it to me.Oh well, it is fixed now.
