Hello! heres something for all of you DIY oil change people! its an M12 size synthetic fiber gasket. Recently I use blue plastic ones. I used to try to torque my drain plug down to spec with a torque wrench but will not do that anymore because I've squashed afew new gaskets that way. Now I'll just go with a plain old 14mm wrench and tighten till it feels like its there. When you use a new gasket like this its pretty easy to feel when its tight enough.
I have had my washer adhered to the oil pan on both of my Vibes (one for over 8 years) and have never changed them. It never leaks, so why would I scrape off the one adhered to the pan? I'm amazed at the ridiculous things that come out of the mouths of dealerships. They are so corrupt and inept, that as time goes on, even they believe the dribble they serve to their customers. Oh wait, it's been 5 days; time for another 30,000 mile checkup; ridiculous.
