aftermarket hatch release

Post by Socks »

Ok, so this always kinda made me angry about the vibes in that some of the things like this are not standard. That said, most of the power options have been remidied. What Im looking for is to see if there is any way to wire up a hatch realease for my '04 vibe. I have remote locks and power windows but im trying to wire up a rear hatch release and have the button up in the dash. Any help would be great on some ideas

Do you want the whole rear hatch to open, or is the glass sufficient? If the latter, holding down the button by the dashboard should work, although it seems to stick on my Vibe.

Honestly never understood the desire for this on the Vibe. I rarely use the hatch glass unless I'm already outside the car (in which case the fob is fine). If I want to open the hatch I just unlock the doors and go open it.

Same here. The only time I use the hatch glass is when I air out the car when Im inside the house. I usually tilt the sunroof & pop the hatch glass. Its not like im going to drive with the hatch glass open lol.

I think the only time I open mine is to clean under the glass; it gets really dirty under there somehow.

I'm sure ebay has an accuator that you can pop rivet in and hook to the rod going to the latch OR go to a junk yard and remove the accuator from a crunched vibe that has one OR contact David Hawkins on this link http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=37786 and see if he has one with the switch. then just wire it in.

Any stereo shop in Edmonton should have a universal fit actuator that they'll sell you. Should run $15-20. If you want to be able to either lock or unlock from the dash, you'll need a rocker switch similar to this:http://www.rvandvansurplus.com/eshop/pr ... .jpgYou'll also need 2 relays & wire them like so:
