drivers cluster airbag light

Post by waveresponder »

so heres the deal, ive been in the process of installing aftermarket replacement leather seats i managed to pick up for a deal (Katkin) after installing the front passenger seat today the airbag light in the drivers cluster wont go out like it normally does after a few seconds when starting the carthe lightbag warning light for the passenger seat is functioning all normally (flashes when you sit in seat without seatbelt on and such) so i assume the sensors are fine and maybe it has something to do with unplugging and reconnecting the wires underneath the seat...i did not disconnect the battery when doing the install, and have yet to disconnect it. would that maybe reset the system? thinking of doing the install of the drivers side tomorrow and seeing if it resets or equals out?anyone ever have this problem? i think my connections under the passenger seat are solidwanted to ask on here first before making a trip to the dealer as the car is out of warranty now anyways and would much rather keep the new seats just want to get the light taken care of (i would imagine the airbags still will work if the passenger sensor light is functioning properly)

When you do the drivers side, disconnect the neg terminal on the battery and see what happens when after you're done and you reconnect it.And re-check the connections for the passenger one, it could simply be that you have a bad connection!

well I honestly dont know about toyo tech.(im a chrysler auto tech) some chrysler vehicles have seat weight sensors that need to be calibrated after removal of seats..(the purpose of the seat weight sensor is for the air bag module to determin if it's a child in a seat or a adult, for deployment of the airbag)I do not know if our cars have such sensor tho..also a airbag light is supposed to turn off after the problem is fixed without a battery disconnect (so there's no need for a reset)

I've just been through this and fixed it (so far). Disconnecting the battery for just a minute didn't reset it.What did fix it was disconnecting the battery (only ground of course) and disconnecting and re-connecting the connectors under the seats. They're a pain in the (removed) to get apart. That took all of 25 min, then after reconnecting the battery, all is OK.I had found in my research that Corrollas with power seats have this problem. It is rare, but with my wife and I sharing the car, the wire harness under the drivers seat gets a work-out going back and forth with each driver.Let us know how this works out!

forgot to update this, ended up taking to dealer, determined to be a short to ground in passenger side front seat side airbag, examined and found crimp in wire, rerouted and rewired as to not crimp again (due to folding seat design) ugh

My driver airbag light just turned on today. I swear, as soon as the car made it to 150,000 miles everything has started going to hell. It did just rain heavily, so I I'll be checking the connections you mentioned.Thanks.
