I read in another thread if you use synthetic oil, you need to use a synthetic oil filter.I was planning on buying Mobile 1 syntehtic for this oil change. I already purchased the Toyota filter for this engine.Does anyone know if the Toyota filter will properly filter synthetic oil, or if I need to stick to non-synthetics?

Yeah lemme tell you, this "doing my own oil change" to save money idea isn't quite working out that way...the oil was about $19 for 5 quarts, filter was about $6...total of $25, about what I would've paid for a pro job...should i not have spring for mobil 1???i'm having trouble seeing the benefits here...

quote:An oil change runs me about $12 after tax. 5 quarts (some left over of course) of Castrol 5W-30 oil and 1 Purolater Plus oil filter. The guy at Pep Boys told me that the Purolator PureOne is supposedly the best filter on the market...

It's what he told me.Doesn't mean it's true. He might've just been trying to sell me the most expensive one. I didn't actually need one...I already bought the Toyota one...I just asked him which one it was cause i needed to get a filter to size a filter wrench...

Nah. It's called "let's sell the most expensive stuff so I can get a bonus this christmas for cheating people out of their money and making the store tons of profit."I'm guilty of it too at work -- I try to encourage people to buy expensive appetizers, or expensive entrees, or use premium spirits in their cocktails, because it makes the checks larger which (hopefully) boosts my tips.
