PCV VALVE- the story......

I had a really bad time finding the correct one for my base 03 Vibe. I first bought one at Advanced auto for $6 but it was tight screwing in so I STOPPED. They offered another one for $13 but had to order it. I believe it was the one for the GT model. I know there is supposed to be a 3/8 and a metric, but it appears that the tapered PIPE threads are the key to fitting. I next went to NAPA and they sold one for $6.50 that had thread locker on it but again, it was pipe thread that got bigger as it screwed in. I again STOPPED. They had a couple of other possibilities but after trying to order them I got anxious and tried AUTO ZONE. The first one they supplied looked right, but after several false alarms, I had the ratchet with me so I took out the now CLEANED ORIGINAL and theirs screwed right in. It was the same length as the stocker too, where as the others I had tried were longer on the inserted end. So, I will put some thread tape and anti seize on tomorrow and hopefully not worry about it for another 120K miles.PS: I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT EVERYONE BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT SCREWING IN A REPLACEMENT UNTIL THEY ARE SURE IT WILL SCREW IN JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL- STEEL alway wins VS ALUM!GEORGE IN TALLAHASSEE FL, owner of the 2003 with 121K miles that uses more oil that I would have expected at this point. Its been well cared for and driven responsibly (the last 114K miles anyway- it had 6k on it when I took delivery). I cant say exactly how much it consumes, but a guess is a quart in 1700-2000 miles. COMMENTS/SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!!!!!

Good to know about the PCV ..I've heard that before, same deal with the major chains mixing up the proper parts between the 1zz and 2zz engines. I love envy green. What's going on with the side graphic? It reminds me of a trapper keeper Do you have any better photos?

To recap: are you saying to only buy the one sold at Auto Zone? If so, can you post the box/part number for us?Also: regarding your oil consumption, you are dead on. The 03's especially, have a bad drinking habit. I run through at least two quarts between 5,000 mile oil changes.

man my 04 my sister has now has just over 100k and I dont think it uses oil.. are you puffing black smoke out the tail pipe?

I was reading an article on PVC valves the other day and they said you should replace every year. I have gone years on the same PVC valve. Maybe the person who wrote that article works for Midas Muffler.

I know they get old and dirty but every year? dang... maybe like every 50k miles. I have one for my escape but 1. it has 110k miles and 2. its a pita to install so im waiting till summer.

the rings are bad somewhere, but no bellowing smoke out the back. I'm just waiting for the warmer weather and Joatmon to report back on what he finds since he's in the same boat as many of us. The '03s have a drinking problem. I knew that evil grill would come back to haunt me!!

Dont have another pic of the Vibe here at work but this is my other ride.....'72 Cuda 340 that I restored from the dead, over 600 hours invested but its a keeper!THe graphics came from JC WHITNEY!Vibe content: glad to hear my oil burning is not odd, although it is stll disappointing. NO, my car doesnt smoke or leak, although it did leak when the front seal blew out at 100K. I hoped the PCV may help, but in truth doubted it would. I cleaned the MAF sensor too and have not been able to really see any difference there yet.ON THE PCV, AUTO ZoNE only listed one for the base VIBE and that one happened to work fine for me. I didnt trust the book or the counter guy, I unscrewed my original and screwed theirs in place before I left. I then had to return two, one to NAPA and one to ADVANCED.

Just replaced mine in an 03 Vibe AWD base.Partsource here in Canada had 2 of them, so i bought both and returned the one that didnt work.The part number on the one here that worked was: Fram FV406 (of course being the more expensive one of the 2)The other one didnt appear to have threading all the way up the valve, whereas the correct one had the threads all the way up.
