Never buy Yokohama IMHO - Falken makes a great tire in the ZE-912

Post by HighMileVibe »

I've made these recommendations on multiple threads but here's a fresh thread to get my opinion out on Yoko's and Falken's. Please do not attack me for this opinion, I just wanted to put out my EXPERIENCE with these tires to fellow Viber's:NO! NO on the yokohama's!!! I have had at least 4 sets of yokohama's and every set has died from broken belts inside the tire before they wore out. 4 for 4! I only bought one set myself with the others being one used set and two sets came with the used car. I think my Vibe, which came with a near new set of Yokohama's now has a belt going out on the left front: pulling left and a slight shake at certain speeds. That will be 5 for 5! Now don't blame it on my driving because I have NEVER had any other tires do this in my 30 years of driving. Can you say warranty claim? - I thought so too but Yokohama wanted me to PROVE I did NOT cause the tire to fail! HELLO - you cannot PROVE a NEGATIVE! With this CRAPPY customer service over a $60 tire, I swore to tell everyone to stay away from Yoko!Anyway, the tires I HIGHLY recommend, have run at the track with great results and have been tested by Consumer reports to be second only to Michelin's costing twice as much: Falken ZE912: http://www.discounttirezone.co....htmlRead up on them and I am sure you will give them a try.

I buy standard tires based on what consumer report rates.. for racing tires I buy based on fellow racers.

Note to self: No Yoko's!I used to buy what was left on the discount rack because my older cars had small tires that nobody used, 205 55 16's are a little more common so I'll have to keep a look out. I stay away from michelins as well, I (and all the mechanics at the tire shop I deal with) believe that they crack and fall apart after 2 seasons. I'm not sure what I'll replace the RS-A's with but it will be cheap and have some decency to it. But that'll be most likely 2011...

I've had a few sets of Yoko's and no complaints beside the tread wear (they had 280 treadwear rating)Other than that, no issues... I do happen to run Falken now though... FK-452's to be exact and will be stepping up to the 615 when these go..

I had the falken 512's on the 2004 and they ran a little loud. I also found the diameter to be a bit smaller than the later Fusion HEi tires I replaced them with. Both were the 205/60/16's. Fusions are doing fine.
2004 Fusion Orange, bought new R.I.P. 2009 Carbon Grey 2.4, bought new. 2004 Neptune bought used-2013

I am on my second recent set of Yokohama's and have had no problems. They make several lines. Which ones have you had trouble with? Also what sizes?
