While we have not had any high profile dogs like Hope recently, we have had quite a few dogs come in that need more than the usual vet care. An example of that is GRAMPS- a 14 year old guy that was found wandering in NC. Gramps has every worm possible- including heartworm! He was never neutered and that could create some complications for him. While the vet was WONDERFUL in discounting his fees, Gramps' bill will probably be around $500.00.BUT, we do rescue, so we will take care of Gramps. Who knows, old Gramps could have quite a few good years yet!With February being Heart Month, National Brittany Rescue is kicking off a special fundraiser "Save a Heart" to replenish badly needed funds to continue the treatment of heartworm positive dogs that have come into rescue recently. Heartworm is a deadly disease if left untreated . Treatment costs generally from $500 to $800. Many dogs suffer from other ailments also. Adoption fees barely cover a portion of their expense.
