Currently in the process of my first road trip- Chicago to Atlanta and back, with lots of stops in between. Very excited to "break in" my car as it just passed 3,000 miles. Going to post pics as I get them and updates as we make it to our destinations, plus track how the MPGs are doing- I love my 3G laptop card!Got on the road about 530am CST and the traffic was pretty clear getting out of Chicago. Getting used to driving by mirrors rather than sight- a big change from all the other cars I've driven, but kind of necessary for the visibility in this car. Anyway, I sure hope no-one has to drive I65 in Indiana today, it's horribly windy and there are lots of flipped/stalled/spun-out trucks and cars. The Vibe felt kind of like a sail in the wind, but I've been feeling like my stock tires are pretty awful at gripping even a dry road. I was only able to get up to 80mph, which was only until the wind picked up, but that speed did feel comfortable for the car. I'm hoping on the way home I'll be able to push the car a bit further to see what it can do- lots of nice open stretches of road here.So far we've made it to West Lafayette, IN for some tasty breakfast in my old college town. Next stops are gas (somewhere south of Indianapolis) and then Louisville for a client meeting. More to come later!

I had my first roadtrip to the US with the (then new) vibe in summer 08. The 2.4L is really nice for highway driving. I will always remember the face of the first of all the V8 SUV drivers that I passed on the highway. They always look down at you in shock and you can just imagine everything going trough their head as they are trying to come to term with the fact that they have been passed by a compact.I did it once with an aveo5 with 4 people inside... the engine sounded like it was ready to die on us by the face that V8 Grand Cherokee driver made was priceless.

The whole reason that I got this car is because it had one of the higher horsepowers of all the hatches (besides the new Mazda3 which I think has it beat by 10).And to the Aveo... my mom's got an '08 Aveo hatch and it makes a lot of trips between Chicago and Ames, IA (my brother's in school there) where she generally prefers to go 80mph... lol! Also yay for using a laptop in the passenger seat somewhere just north of Indianapolis...

Wave the next time you're driving between Exits 138 and 140 on I-65! Lebanon, Indiana, home of world-famous Donaldson's Chocolate (just south of Exit 139).
My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.
More updates from the highway just south of Nashville. Noticed that people aren't really keen on speeding around here. Surprised to find almost no one going over the speed limit. Then again, your speed limit is 70! I am so jealous. Can someone please inform Chicago that 55 is pathetic?Filled up on gas twice so far. MPGs are only 27 and 28 for these fillups, but I'm attributing that to the nasty wind and weather yesterday. We're on our way to Atlanta now- I'll get to drive the car again once we stop in Chattanooga for lunch. We're gonna have something else they don't have in Chicago... Chick-Fil-A.

Heading out of Atlanta now... even as a Chicago driver I was having a hard time adapting to driving around here. Lack of dedicated left turn lanes threw me off, not to mention my lack of practice driving on hills (hello, midwest) and the fact that everyone here seems to want to drive as fast as possible, especially at night around sharp curves! But, we survived. Another question for those of you who bought your cars new, especially '09/'10- at what mileage did you get your *first* oil change? I ask because I'm about to hit 3700, and my car was an '09 (which meant it had probably been on the lots a while) and already had 800 miles on it when I got it even though it was new (it had been transported from somewhere far). So do you think I should be looking to do an oil change while I am out here, or do you think I'm good for the several hundred miles it will take me to get back home?

Just rolled over 4,000 miles on the Odometer, about 50 miles south of Nashville. Really glad I am traveling today and not yesterday, it seems that the roads are all very clear, but all the trees in the foothills were covered in ice, which was beautiful. I did take some pictures of those, but they probably didn't turn out. I'll post later if it's anything worth showing. We'll be staying in Bowling Green, Kentucky tonight, and are doing the Corvette Plant tour in the morning!
