According to AutoBlog, GM is waiting for the official numbers, details, and "How To" fix from Toyota. After they get the info we will most likely be getting our letters in the mail to visit our local Buick/GMC Dealer for the fix. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/0...call/
I took my 2010 AWD Vibe in, on 2/8/10 for loud brake noise. I talk to the service dept 2/11/10(today), He informed that they are holding the car for the Sticking Accelerator Pedal Recall. I live in northern Indiana. Parts are schedule to be at the Lansing parts warehouse on 2/22/10. Each dealership will only get a allotment of parts. They told me if the vehicle show any signs of the Sticking Accelerator problem, they are not to let the customer have it. GM will pay for any rental. Please keep this in mind, I am getting this info. second hand. I just thought everyone would like to know the recall has started. I'll keep everyone updated as new info. comes in.
I too got my recall in the mail and there are two recalls. Recall #10018 for the accelerator and Recall #10038 for the Floor mat. Recall #10018 says that Pontiac dealers will have parts by February 22 to "install the precision-cut steel reinforcement bar in to the accelerator pedal assembly. RECALL #10038, reads that there isn't a replacement or fix yet for the floor mats and that drivers should have the floor mats used correctly, not upside down or use "incompatible driver's floor mat (can) interfere with the accelerator pedal... GM will notify you again as soon as a recall remedy is available for your vehicle. I got the Weathertech Digital Fit floor mats for my Vibe, and I will be mad as hell if they make changes to the floor pan and I won't be able to use my $150 floor mats. Then again, the way these floor mats fit in the vehicle, it is nearly impossible for the accelerator to be interfered with by them.
I got my recall work done recently. But what they did in putting in some kind of bracket to correct the problem seems to suggest that they thought it was a mechanical problem while what I'm reading and hearing in the media about the Toyotas is that it may be an electronic problem with the computer, in which case what they did would not entirely fix the problem. I don't know what Toyota models had this problem and if it included the Matrix, but if it did, we Vibe owners would be vulnerable to that also. Has anybody heard of Vibe owners experiencing any of these issues?
Bringing this up again... I think my mpgs have gone down since I got this recall- perhaps due to a more fidgety pedal. I track my average mpg for each fillup, and the average of the 12 fillups before the recall was 27mpg, the average of the 10 fillups after the recall was 26mpg. Both of these sample time periods included long highway fillups and short city driving, AND there was an outlier in the first group of only 23mpg (only half a tank fillup with bad weather), which means the difference was actually more.Has anyone else noticed something like this?I am going to check other variables like tire pressure, etc. but you would think that the crappy weather in the time period before march 1st (when I got the recall done) would drop the mpgs more than the second group after march 1st........

Didn't they tell you?? Part of your gas line is diverted to the new steel insert to ensure maximum zoom-zoom. If you don't buy that, then it could be the trunk money siphoning off some for recreational use?

Haha But seriously, I do think having a more loose/fidgety pedal could cause a drop in mpgs because the car is more likely to have jerky acceleration than smooth driving. I'm going to keep track for a bit longer though to see if the system reflash had any effect as well.

Are you logging any of your fuel usage on any sites such at this .... http://www.mpgtune.com/fillupH...=4740 I got hooked onto this site (the best of a few I checked out) and have ALL my vehicles registered and data uploaded. There are only 2 - 2009 Vibes here (could use a few more hint) Getting back to the forum issue here, I never had the recall done on mine and probably never will. With the manual transmission I have an extra method of engine disengagement, it's called the CLUTCH , and have not had any reason yet to suspect any "engine runaway" condition. Maybe on your Vibe there was just a slight difference in gas pedal tension to where it actually took mileage away base on your foot positioning and habitual acceleration. Who knows
