You can put 16 or 17 inch wheels on 2.4L vibes without any problem. 16 is the smallest tire you can use as 15 will not clear the brakes. The handling (mostly the cornering) will suffer a little since the tires will be narrower but the ride will be softer since the tires will be taller.

That's really a great looking winter tire/wheel package on your car, JetBlack. Main thing to remember, Van, is to try to get a taller aspect ratio for a winter tire. What you might give up in instant turning response, you get back by having more clearance for the deeper snows and banks. And then, once the roads start to heave, you will also have a softer sidewall to deal with the sharper bumps.
