Tow points..pulling out if stuck w/chain

Post by bigblunote »

We have to climb 1 of two steep hills to get to our cabin, sometimes snow/ice packed. So far no problem; my 2.4 fwd makes it up ok. The day will come when we will have to use the tractor to pull it up, where can we attach the chain? without tearing up the uni-body?

There is a tow hook on the front in the middle about a foot back from the bumper. There is no tow hook on the rear unless you have a trailer hitch...Not much in the rear to hook onto.... Welcome to GenVibe BTW!!!!!

Thanks! That was quick! I have been watching this site since I got the Vibe 12/09 It has about 21000 miles already...Just too busy to crawl underneath to look for a tow point.Now... chances are the tow will be an assist, meaning I would drive it once it is unstuck or if the hill is just too icy...can it be towed in neutral without power just me at the wheel, without damage?

Towing a short distance won't hurt it. As long as it's not an AWD, you can dinghy tow it across the country (see owners manual on "towing").

Never thought about the tow hook in the rear. If you nose it deep enough into a snow bank, it's gonna be some trouble getting it out without hurting it.

I'm carrying a car-sized round point shovel! Hopefully if it goes in front first I can dig it out to get to the tow ring. The main idea is to get it hooked to the tractor before it gets in trouble...just so it doesn't block the road/hill.I finally looked under the car, a chain coming out the back would surly crush the muffler.

Maybe that trailer hitch idea is the way to go.
