What is that ticking sound? Someone Help!!!!

I know it has been dicussed here but now i cannot find it, what is that ticking sound behind the dash when I turn my car on? I hope its not an expensive fix. It seems to get quieter after driving for a bit. Please help, I just bought this used.. and have had to sink some mula in for new struts, and fluids, tires etc.. hope this isn't too much!

It might be the gear on your recirculate door motor has stripped... Does it keep ticking repeatedly? And the noise comes from the top of the dash on the passenger's side?If that's what it is, the part isn't too much but to get to it you might have to pull the dash out. There are some that have been able to do this with the dash in place, it's tricky though.

I would venture to guess panic is right. My wife's vibe just had this go out on her. When I had the vents on with it recirculating from inside the car (pushing the button on the dash next to the A/C) it stopped, but as soon as I flipped it over to defrost it would start the ticking. I tore into the dash to try and get to it, and it is a challange. I ended up just taking it in someplace to get it fixed rather than mess with the airbags and paid about $180.

thanks, i will most likely take it somewhere as i don't want to mess anything up...LOL so it sounds like if you don't put it on recirculate it works better huh?

You bet! It should be OK for fresh air mode. This thing is broken on my wife's car too but I haven't gotten around to fixing it. Maybe in the spring.
