03 Vibe (FWD not GT) noise

Post by mjschnelle »

Have an 03 Vibe that when started and put into gear makes an interesting noise. Not really a hard growl that shakes the car but a noise that is a cause for some concern. Only makes the noise when the car is in gear with the brake on. Noise goes away once the car warms up. I was guessing trans fluid, anyone have some advice?

Perhaps your brakes are worn out.

It sounds like the same problem I had with mine. I had the tensioner pulley assembly replaced and the noise stopped. That was last year, so I think that is what I had fixed--I'll have to check my car receipts tomorrow.I bought the assembly at Autozone (one of those places) and had it put on for around $75 total.EDIT: I checked my receipts and it was the serpentine belt tensioner I had replaced. Cost $70 for labor and I payed around $60 for the part . There are other members who replaced it themselves and saved the labor cost.

Did you get it figured out? If it is the belt tensioner, read this thread about the different prices: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=28460. Autozone and Advanced have the best prices.
