e brake stayingone

Post by PEDALS »

For the past week or so whenever I takethe ebrake off and start moving I can feel that the parking brake is still on a little. After a few minutes it goes back tonormal. Now I'm having a real problem because off all the ice and snow I'm not able to get traction enough to even move the car to get the ebrake to disactivate. I took the drums off today and luckly I still have lots of pads left but i'm unsure as to why the ebrake sticking on. Could it be one of thesprings or something else in the brake assembly. Let me knowwhat you think

The first thing that I would do is to take the wheel and the drum off and put a drip pan under the rear brake assembly and clean it with break cleaner and a tooth brush. Take the car and test it. If it still sticks it could be cables have corrosion inside the plastic sheething which could cause the sticking. Also clean the drum and look for any grooves or rust that may hang the shoes up.

+1 on the cablesStop using the e-brake when you park until you get it fixed, use wheel chocks for the time being. To release a stuck e-brake, hit the wheel a couple times with a deadblow hammer or reach under and grab the e-brake cable and yank on it in every direction.
