Used Tires

Post by Caretaker »

I am about to put Primacy's on my Vibe. My Eagle GSAs only have 17,000 miles on them and look great. The salesperson at Costco thought I could get $30 a piece at places that sell used tires. He predicted I'd get that amont, and that the used tire store would try to sell them for $65. Does anyone have any experience in shopping around their used tires and what you got for them? Thanks.

Most of them are donuts though. shipping on used tires means you are talking local sales. you might try your local free bargain hunter maghttp://www.automotix.net/parts....html

My friend sells used tire on Craigslist. Just have to take a good picture of the whole tire, then the tread and state the mileage on the tires. Should be able to get more than $30. Good luck.

Thanks epcIII. I would be thrilled to get $30, even though they look fantastic. I bought some detailing spray, and will take all the small stones out of the tread lines. I tried to get the tires swapped out when I bought the car but was too late. Again, I would be thrilled to get some money for these GSA's. They are pretty good tires on dry pavement, but after that, they aren't worth much unless you keep your speed under 40 mph.

well, I got my Michelin Primacy's today. I'll take the car to my mechanic tomorrow to get an alignment check (if there is such a thing anymore). While I was detailing the Eagle RSAs, I took out all the small pebbles and found no less than 3 spikes in the tires. It is amazing what we drive on each and every day, and scary to say the least. One of the "spikes" was a staple that went in to the thin tread section and protruded through. I have marked the spot, but don't believe plugs are ever done in the tread groove; thus the tire is worthless. Hopefully I'll get some money for the other three.

if you have a wire staple in the tire. the tire is trash. They won't put more than three plugs in one tire and each plug shouldn't be any closer than 3" from the other plug.I ran in to this issue last year. My wife drove over a wire staple and when i went to get the tire plugged they told me the above info. I ended up buying a new tire which stunk because the tire still had a good 50k on the tread left.
