new with a dumb question

Post by vibe2 »

First of all, I am new to this forum so hello everyone.I just got a like-new looking 2004 vibe GT, even it was a salvaged-and-fixed car. The mechanic seems to have done a wonderful job putting things together. I just had th ecar checked by my mechanic and he is very happy with the work.Without saying, th ecar runs great and it only has 48,000 miles on it.The bad part is that my mechanic told me the previous car seller put everything back but the fender liners, mud guards, and some clips on th ebottom and front bumper.I called the seller and sure enough, he found three pieces of plastic things and handed to me. Two of them seem to be a pairs and one is a long piece. I assume the two pair pieces go underneath the car, and one goes around the wheel (fender liner). I still have to get another long piece to the mud guard.I called the junkyard but no one carries this item. So my question is:1) where do you all know I can get one of this thing? It seems to be a thin piece of plastic so I hope it can be shipped.2) Is it difficult to put it together? Do I have to take the wheel off? Anyone has a picture to show how those pieces fit together?I would have my mechanic do it if only he doesn't charge me for close to $600 for new parts and labor. I can't justify the amount for a few pieces of plastic. Call me cheap...Any info will be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Thank you both.tribalman - I will take a picture of the pieces and upload to show this evening. I would really love to have the installation instruction if you will be kind enough.

Thanks for the manual. Can't seem to find the section for this part though. Any idea where?

Darn, even they don't have one in hand. Sounds like a dealer part to me.

tribalman - here are some pictures. The first is the "identical pair (not so identical afterall). And the following two are the fender liner, I suppose.I hope you will log on and take a look. Please send me the note about how to put it together, and where these pieces should go to. Please what else are missing that I am not even aware of?Thanks.

from the looks of images 2 and 3 it looks to go around the passenger side. not too hard to replace. in this thread i show how to take apart the liner to access the washer reservoir. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=36770 there are a few bolts and pins i don't mention as they didn't need to be taken off for that writeup, but i'm sure once you get it started you will see where they are/should be located. i hope you don't need the pins, clips, and bolts too. there are 2 clips and they cost $10 each. i have no idea how much the pins are.
