made my own trunk mat/carpet =)

Post by lowincash »

i've been thinking of getting a carpet mat thing for my trunk area and was didn't really find one for the 09 vibes. i looked at the ones for the 09 matrixes and it looks like it might be the same size. but it was about $120 or something =/ did some search on here and saw others that made their own. i went to home depot and bought a roll for about $12 and was enough for the floor part. i might get another roll to do the seat backs too. any suggestions how to stick them onto the seat backs?anyways here are a couple pics

It cost me about $6, if I remember correctly, and that's a hell of a lot cheaper than the $100+ GM wanted for their carpet.

My thought is that maybe the plastic tabs on the 2009+ Vibe cab be removed and the d-rings from the 2003-2008 Vibes can take their place. I have not had a lot of time to take a look and see if this in an option.

The cargo covers come in real handy when you don't want potential thiefs to see what you have in your car--esp. while at the mall Christmas shopping.

For the back of my seats I used Heavy duty velcro. It gets the job done sometimes it will come unstuck from the back of the carpet, but usually stays for a while.

I did the Velcro thing couple weeks ago on a more heavier house carpet and stuck it to the back seats and so far so good.Make sure it is a heavy duty velcro you use.

i made the cargo cover a while back. here's the link to it:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=39569i ended up taking it out and not using it anymore. it's just sitting in the cargo area. it was kind of annoying putting things in and out with it in the way. and i think the rods i was using were too thin so it kept bouncing up and down as i drive lol

Good job on your cargo mat. That type of material is perfect for the application. I think it is sealed on the bottom which is good for spills.

It's really inexpensive to do and makes a world of difference. No more sliding groceries in the back.
