Intro - Thunderscreech!

Post by Thunderscreech »

Hi guys!I just bought a 2003 Vibe a couple days ago and have been browsing through the forums since then, lots of great stuff here! Some background: I like doing little customization bits on my cars, nothing crazy, just fixing stock things to reflect my personality a little better. My previous car (now my wife's) was a 2007 Chrysler 300 that I cleaned up, debadged, removed the side trim, put on Transformer badging on the front & back (subtle, Decepticon btw of course), tinted, repainted a bunch of inside trim, stuff like that. So, I've now inherited some teenager's first car (I'm guessing this based on the dumb stickers and LED lights behind the grill) with a bunch of scratched up inside/outside trim and stuff, so I get a new project. It somehow has a 1998 vintage Sony CD player in it (I'm sure there's an interesting story behind that) so I'll be upgrading. I know it doesn't get a lot of respect here, but I'm planning on putting the Jensen VM8013HD in because of the iPod integration, neato video stuff (including the reverse camera input), and DVD-R reading (for big MP3 loops). I'll probably put in some sort of amp & sub later when I get more cash, things are a bit tight at the moment.I'm looking forward to copying the 'MUT' trim paint job I saw in someone's sig, looks freakin' brilliant. And I'm also anticipating having a bunch of fun personalizing this car. Looks like a great community, hopefully I'll have some interesting project pics sometime!

You've found a great project car. That teenager may have been way ahead of his time in some respects. LEDs are now standard fare in some pretty upscale cars... Audi and Rover to mention a couple. Maybe he/she was balancing that forward thinking with the retro '98 Sony cd player! The first time I saw one of those Audis headed at me, I though, there's someone who forgot to take his Christmas lights down. Lucky for us, that the Vibe interior is plastic. Easy to mend and paint. We need pictures. And you can include some of the Chrysler, too, while you're at it. We don't charge extra for that here. Can't believe you're going to 'MUT' your Vibe. Who the heck would do that?!? Welcome to the Vibe farm!

Heh, no, these were not tasteful or cool LEDs. It was two single red LEDs mounted to the bottom grill. I've got an idea I've been kicking around for a while involving mounting laser pointers inside my side mirrors with arrow 'heads' on them, aimed down at the ground and wired to the turn signals. That way, in the dark, I turn on my blinker and an arrow showing where I'm going appears on the ground next to me. Maybe it's dorky, but hey, it's MY dorky instead of someone else's, heh.
