Infinity Bass Link Sub Install Questions

Post by zdkaiser »

So I just ordered the Infinity Basslink 10inch 200W sub off amazon.com ($179 with free shipping!). I also ordered the 10 gauge amp wiring kit from crutchfield.com: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1...=2919Is there anything else that I am going to need to install this? Also, I need some help installing it. I was planning on putting it behind the driver seat on the floor. I need to run the RCAs to the back of my Sony headunit, yes. What is the best way to run these cables so they aren't visible? I was thinking of going under the carpet. Any tips on easy methods to get under the carpet? Also, how do I run the power cable into the battery? Where is the opening I can feed the wires through?I have never installed a sub before, so all help and photos is much appreciated.

Oh yeah. No moon and tunes. And do I have to splice into the car speakers?

I have my amplifier under the seat so basically it will be close to where you are putting your sub. I ran the power wire from the battery down along the firewall, along the brake lines a bit and into the passenger compartment through a rubber plug in the bottom of the vehicle. Make sure to seal the area where you go through the rubber very well with some form of silicon or other rubbery stuff if you go that route. This was the easiest and really the only way I could figure to get the wire into the cabin. :/ From there I routed it under the carpet and out along the trim around the pillar between the doors. The RCA and amp turn on wire I routed from the head unit back under the dash around the steering column behind the kick panel, under the door trim and out in the same spot as the power cable. GL on the install.

My advice is to pull the front seat(s) and possibly the back seat... With them out of the way, you can lift carpet, slide your arms under it and such... Usually the wire is concealed under the rocker trim.. You should have a plug or something you can snake the power wire through... make sure the wire is NOT touching metal as it passes through the firewall, it HAS to be inside of a grommet or it can cut the wire and short... After you are through the firewall, make sure the wire doesn't get pinched by anything metal. a little plastic pinching isn't usually a problem, you just gotta be careful of the metal.. the RCA's just come down from the back of the HU (does the HU have a subwoofer output or no?) and along the path with the power wire... Or, if you feel like it, lift the carpet and snake it under... just make sure it doesn't get pinched by the seats or anything... other than that, you should be good to go... Let us know if you have any more questions/issues..

Hey thanks for the responses.I dont think I will be pulling any seats out. I looked at the firewall today, and I am going to try to push through behind the brake fluid into the cabin. Which should put my wire above my gas pedal. I will snake it around under the kickpanel and so forth.Sublimewind... I thought you weren't supposed to snake the RCAs with the power cord because of interference issues? I was planning on snaking the RCAs the same way as the power cable, just on the other side of the vehicle. The hole in the firewall looks tight. I think it is going to be a ***** working that power cord through.

I also have heard that routing RCA's along the power wire does cause interference. I have always ran down opposite sides of the car.

I'm not sure what size power wire you've got but mine wouldn't fit through any of the places in the firewall that I tried using. Also, I haven't had a problem with interference, or if I do I can't hear it from running the wires close together. It may depend on what wires you're using. Mine is a Rockford Fosgate kit that came with everything. I got it for like 5 or 10 bucks years ago when I had a Best Buy employee discount....the markup on wiring is insane...

i installed the Basslink today. Didn't have time to tune it, but it is installed and functioning. I have it behind the driver's seat, vibrating my chair. It is a powerful little amp. My first sub install complete. Nothing seemed to be f-ed up yet. We'll see...

Yeah, really as long as you take your time and use your head installing audio, and almost anything else in a car is pretty straightforward. All the wires might appear intimidating, but when you actually go through them one at a time, it goes very easily. Congrats.
