anyone ever use them ...yokohama ice guards . good price on them so just curious ? im getting a set of 205 55 16 to replace the stock 18s that i have now ... thanks alot for the opinions in advance .
They'll do you great, as long as you aren't planning on running them year round... I tell everyone that will listen, a winter tire, even the CHEAPEST winter tire, will be better in the snow than the BEST A/S tire... period... If you've never run snow tires, do yourself the favor and get them, you'll wonder how you've gotten around in the winter all of these years..
thanks for the advice ... they are actually not too bad . Taking corners on the freeway exits at 140 is going to have to wait till the spring though now LOL
As an FYI, I put Bridgestone Blizzaks 205 55 16 in place of my 18"s on my '09 GT and my speedometer is now off 5-6mph at highway speeds. As many owners already know, the speedometer is off by 2-3mph with the stock 18's. I convinced GM to give me a 12 month/ 12,000 mile maintenance smartcare package because of the issue, but they will not do anything to repair the speedometer as it is "within tolerance". GM's speedometer standard is within +/- 4% at 60mph as told to me by customer service.
Accuracy counts at GM. Measure it with a micrometer, mark it with a fat felt tip pen and then cut it with a chain saw. Close enough.4% at 60mph is almost a 5 mph span, right? 2.4 mph either side of 60. Use a good GPS and it will give you a better indication of your actual speed. Good stuff to know, in order to keep the speeding ticket count down. Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chrysler, VW... and all the rest probably have the same speedometer slosh factor.

That's because the 18" wheel package is actually an inch larger in diameter than the 17" wheel and tire package. 215/15/18 vs 215/45/17.I am assuming they (Toyota) did this because a 215/35/18 would leave little to no sidewall and would make for a rough ride. The only problem is they didn't calculate the difference in the cars computer and therefore the speedo is off by 2-3 MPH at 65 MPH. However if it is off any more than that like my 09 GT was, my dealer found that the wheel speed sensors were off quit a bit and replaced them. This is important because the wheel speed sensors tell your ABS module whether or not ABS, Traction Control or Stability control needs to step in. When buying winter tires, I actually went up a size on the wall and went with 205/60/16 because they were more accurate to the overall diameter of the 18" wheel and tire package.
