I've started to hear a gear noise most apparent at 3000 rpm. Took it into the dealership. Here is what the technican notes say."Road tested with customer. Can hear rattle type noise on decell. Road tested alone. Can hear noise when on decell and even when free wheeling. Put vehicle on rack and inspected exhaust. Ok. Can hear noise coming from transmission. Inspected fluid level. Ok. Tested noise with clutch in and out. Noise gone when clutch applied. Checked for TSB. None. Noise from clutch. Needs tear down and inspect."Mileage: 57,207Any ideas??
The GT transmissions have been pretty solid. The 03 5 speeds had some bearing issues, but the 6 speeds have been good. Now, clutches in the 6 speeds, thats a different story. GTs suppsoedly have a big hunger for clutches, but not many reporting internal tranny failuresFrom the tech's notes, its hard to say, other than he did isolate the sound to the tranny. If the sound goes away when the clutch pedal is pressed (and the car is on the rack) then it could be that there's an issue with the throwout bearing. I've never had one of those go bad so I don't know what that sounds like, but I'd imagine that if it was bad and the sound went away when you pressed the clutch pedal, then it would probably sound like a rattle.some threads that might be relevant, I don't know, arehttp://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=10095http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=37122It's not easy to check the throwout bearing, have to pull the tranny. One might do it oneself, but it's not a token job. I assume the warranty is gone (and clutch related things are hard to get covered under warranty anyway) you might look for a good local independent tranny shopsorry to hear about the troubles, but welcome to genvibe
