Wearing already?!

Post by 09vGT »

Today at school I got in my car and was waiting for one of my friends to get out of class. I noticed that the Pontiac symbol on the airbag cover is starting to wear.. The chrome around the red symbol is starting to wear off and white is being exposed.. Its not a huge issue.. but I'm at 34000 miles and have to take my car in a couple of days for some repairs.. Think they would replace it under warranty.. or should I just deal with it? Its an 09 vibe.

Bumper to bumper, right? Make 'em fix it.

The warranty may be "bumper to bumper" but dealers usually balk at cosmetic items. I would be surprised if you're able to get it warrantied without a fight.

Do you use any kind of protectant or cleaner on it that may have affected it? It seems like a strange thing to "wear" - being in the middle of the wheel, I don't think I've ever even touched mine - except to dust it off.

Cleaners tend to be responsible for discolouration.

Myself I just use a washcloth damp w/a bit of water. If I didn't think anything I did had caused it to fail, I'd fight the good fight on the cosmetic item.I'd point to the front bumper, then point to the rear bumper, then point to the steering wheel and ask them to convince me it is not covered somehow under warranty.

I just never mentioned it.. Several things getting fixed, auto lights, funky smell in air, plastic cover behind steering wheel.... Anyway, the first couple of times I did use the cleaning wipes.. they seemed to streak on the doors so now I just use a damp wash cloth.. I looked closer and seems the chrome area is flaking, not really wearing away..
