Magnet for road debri.

Post by Lancer »

I don't know what it is about my Vibe, but I've had more damage from road debri in the one year that i've had it than with the 10 years I had my Geo Storm. I already have about 4 chips in the windshield (only one is repairable), and over a dozen nicks in the hood, and countless others in the molding all around the car.Any one else have this kind of luck?

Mine has spent most of it's life so far on I-75, and has received it's share of stone chips already, but not too bad. I try and park way out in the boonies at work or when I go to a store, but still have received door dings. It does shound like you have received more than your share though. It's sad to see our babies get blemished, but they can't stay showroom new for ever.

I have a ton of chips all over the front of my car and on the hood. and yes i park in the back everywhere i go....the dealership said tough $h!t when i asked about the paint....I'm a little sore over the issue, I had an S-10 with 105,000 miles and no problem with stone chips in the paint.

I think 3M has a tough clear plastic paint shield that can be applied over paint on critical areas of cars. Perhaps something like that would be the solution/protection for those who drive in rocky debri-flinging and free-ranging shopping cart areas.Just a thought.KSNeptune

Griots Garage sells clear film that can be cut to fit any place on your car. It advertised to protect the leading hood edge from stone ships and rocker panels from kick marks. It comes by the foot in 3/8", 2" and 4" wide strips:PAINT SAVING, CLEAR PROTECTIVE SHIELDThis clear, protective shield works excellent at protecting painted areas more prone to chips and scratches. (I cringe every time I hear a high-heel shoe hit a painted door sill.) Simply cut the desired size shield, apply positioning spray to the surface, move the cut shield into place, then squeegee out the Positioning Spray and you're done! An instant clear shield that protects your paint! Use it on front ends, along door edges, around tire wells, inside door jambs, along door sills, painted bumpers - I've had this protective shield on my wife's Suburban's door jambs for two years now, and I could peel it off at any time and the paint would still look brand new. Available in three widths. 12 mils thick. Sold by the foot. Not for use on plastic bumpers and repainted vehicles. http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp ... &SKU=77890
