Kenwood DNX6140 multimedia system in 2009 vibe

Post by Banjovibe »

Hi. I recently had this unit installed in my 2009 Vibe and I thought that it might be worth starting a thread on, if this hasn't been done already. I feel like there is a lot to share about this system. For example, it took me about 2 weeks to figure out how to change the display fields to show the direction (heading) and time of day while in route. I think we could share a lot of info. on audio and video settings etc. So I have a question. Why is it that my GPS takes so long sometimes to find satellites from my parking lot, but it finds them right away at other times? Note: moderator, I'm new to the board and I think I posted this in the wrong place. Please move at your discretion. thanks

Well. I can answer my own question. I had the antenna for the GPS hidden on a bar behind the glove box. I moved it to the back of the vibe-right next to the other-built in antennas (on the outside)...excellent reception now...I know that the curious thousands of viewers of this thread would want to know . By the way, at Best Buy they said that there is no way to hook the system up to steering wheel controls. Is that true?

Howdy, Welcome to GV...!I don't know how many you will find here with that unit... maybe on MO.com..? But they are great these days, I just hope you can keep it, they are billboards to thieves.. wish you my best on that.. Yeah, they offer a lot of features, I know it's difficult, but the manual is your best friend in this case.. It's a book, but read it... just sit down with it, in the car, in the driveway and have an hour or so with you new friend... lol... BTW, I wish I could live down in those parts, the roads look AMAZING.. Well, at least to me... lol.. I'll look into the steering wheel controls for you, when I get a chance, till then enjoy... Oh and where are the Pics? You know, some members here, will come after you with pitchforks and torches, for not postin pics... lol..

Sublimewind (great name BTW), thanks for responding. I appreciate your looking into the steering wheel thing. You're right. I must take pics. As for the theft thing, do you think an antitheft system will make any difference?

They help, it all depends on how bad they want it... if they really want it, nothing you will do will stop it... An alarm lowers your insurance and make getting things stolen covered easier... AFA stopping it, couldn't possibly say.. Thanks on the SN, I like to think of it as a breath of fresh air.. lol... not the sublimewind that comes from ones backside.. lol..

Just ordered the DNX6140 for the wife's 2009. Crutchfield was offering a free backup camera and half-price Metra adapter (to keep OnStar functionality, door chimes, and to provide switched 12V to the head unit), plus all the other goodies (faceplate adapter, harnesses, etc.) that Crutchfield provides, so I figured I'd take the plunge. The wife and I love Garmin's navi interface, plus she wanted a backup camera to make up for the Vibe's poor rearward visibility. Bluetooth is an added plus.Looks like it might be delivered on Friday. Whenever I get the chance to install it, I'll try to take pics and post them.--Chris
