There is a new trend that people are puting the 0w?0 into their cars. As they claim it is the PAO cat IV synth oil that much supperior than the cat 3. I found the Walmart carried the mobile 1 0w40 in my area, do you think it is good to put into my 09 vibe?Vincent
as kind of an experiment last summer when I was hypermiling my (removed) off and gas was $4 a gallon I tried a couple rounds with both 0w30 and 0w20. I honestly didn't notice that much of a difference in the way the car ran or the mpg's, so I switched back to 5w30 synth.

The reason I am looking into this 0w20/40 thing is they claims this oil last much longer than the cat III oil. you can almost do the 1 year without the oil change needed. The lable on the bottle says "European car" which it is Made in Gremany.
WAIT! Don't let the ZERO(first number) confuse you. That is not the number you should be concerned with unless you are in extremely cold temps. Think of the 1st or "W" number as the "Winter" number (just easier to remember that way). The lower the 1st number, the closer the oil will stay to its viscosity rating when the oil is cold. The 2nd number is the oil viscosity rating at 212degF. There are 0w/20, 5w/20, 0w/30 and 5w/30 FULL synthetic oils out there. Why not use one of them? With these newer engines, the tolerances are much tighter and running a thicker oil isn't always the best idea, synthetic or not. Those 0w/40 oils are recommended FOR specific cars by THEIR [the cars] manufacturers. Eluding to what I was saying about the colder temps... these oils (with a 0 1st number) are required for "German" cars. Germany is NOT know for its hot weather, no matter what time of the year. They call for a 40wt because the engines tollerances are not as tight, again, the cold weather has a lot to do with it.
