Not long ago I asked if anybody knew anything about Magic Jack internet phone service. I decided to give it a try. The only possible drawback that I see is that my computer must be logged on for it to work. Is there any great risk to being logged on 24/7? Right now I'm using Free AVG as my firewall / virus protection. I also use Firefox. Am I safe enough?

no kidding. you are never really safe.and yes, the magicjack... no thanks. but then, I use my own system, and no need to be logged into my computer, have a local number and only pay the fed taxes.
I have a friend that also has it. Not sure on his protection but I can check. He is cheap, so I doubt he invested in Brinks Security type PC protection. He does like the Majic Johnson Jack though!
I wouldn't trust avg. avg is strickly a virus protection. Get a good firewall protection as well.I run avast firewall. It can get annoying now and again with it asking everytime something wants to connect (*unless you make it remember). It will require new updates now and again for it to continue to work well. After each new update you will have to relearn again.http://download.cnet.com/Avast...mncol

Skype works quite well, and is free! AVG works quite well, and is free! The windows firewall seems to do the task. Don't dowmload porn or ringtones and you shouldn't have problems. Oh, and virus scanners work soooo much better when you USE them and update them regularly.
