Problem with Headlights

Post by Zer0VIBE03 »

Okay, long story but I need to explain it all in order to get help right?Firstly. I went to my dad's today to install a Xentec HID system I have had sitting around for awhile due to various problems with the ballasts and bulbs sent to me. We get everything set up with the new ballast and nothing is working on the driver side. So my father splices the red wire and attaches it straight to the battery. Bingo. It works. Temporarily, for about 20+ minutes. So I get fed up with the thing and pull everything apart and put the OEM headlights back in being annoyed with how long I have attempted to make this work. I finish putting the stockers back in while my dad finishes putting all the wiring back to normal (sealing up a splice or two) and go to test them out only to find that the drivers side is now dim. Poo.Even more irritated with the situation, I drive home, get new bulbs thinking I touched the glass of the other bulb, and still nothing. So I have run out of ideas. Before we tried this today all was working fine. Only signal of something wrong I have is that the high beam sign is dimly lit regardless of whether or not my high beams are on. The headlight is dim. I was thinking the wiring on that headlight is a little fubar'd because the HID wouldn't work on that side originally, either. But once we hooked it up the battery it was fine. The ballast just died on the other side and I did not want one HID and one regular bulb. So I am out of ideas. Anyone know anything about this?Cliffs: After attempted HID install and failure, tried to put old headlights back in and driver's side is dim. Replaced bulbs and still nothing. Halp!!

Wow, that sucks... Welcome to GV, if I haven't said so already.. I would be looking at these splices again... Where you soldering? Sometimes the little spikes of wire can poke through and short across things.. If this has happened in you light harness, you may be getting a little current to the high beam making it dimly lit.. The ground for it as RIT mentioned,as well... The fusesAll of that needs to be checked.. but mainly the splices, they where the only real "change" made..
