2009 front door trim insert accent to fit on the rear door?

Post by Kincaid »

Bear with me - this is a little long but I hope it is an interesting read.Well, my vision for my 2009 Vibe is starting to coalesce. I've been puzzling about how to brighten up the dark interior. I've been looking at dash kits but was concerned about bringing in yet another color/texture to the mix and/or trying to match the existing silver matte trim of the dash and front door accents (the silver "spears" that surround the door handle and trail out toward the back of the car in an arrow shape). I found one dash kit that included spears that go on the rear doors - something Pontiac should have done from the factory in all model IMO. Having these rear door spears to match the front would go a long way in to making the interior design completely cohesive. So, we have several textures which makes it difficult to avoid a clash. There is the top of the dash weave (if you are going to do hard plastic - this is a nice and clever way to go - just look at a Toyota Venza sometime - ugh). Then we have the regular black plast lower panels - hard and pebbly and not so nice - and the top of the glove box really stands out and not in a good way. There is the silver matte dash, shifter surround and front door accents. We even get a fabric weave arm rest in the front and a perforated vinyl one in the back (I can live with that but that had me scratching my head). Finally the seats have their own texture with the white on black pattern. I don't want to overdo some interior accent and make it jarring to the eye. Wood is definitely out in my book on this sporty car. It would be almost impossible to match the existing silver matte trim but I also haven't found a dash kit that has a molded dash and door accents AND matching rear door accents.Anyway, I noticed that the front and rear doors look exactly the same at the top. I haven't measured anything yet but I suspect the front spear accent would fit on the rear door. First step will be to measure that and the second will be to try and find a Pontiac dealer that has a front door accent piece in stock so I can try a test fit. If it will fit, I plan to pick up a couple and get them fixed somehow to the rear doors. If they will fit, then my theory is that Pontiac/Toyota once intended to have those accents on the rear doors and then decided to delete them as a cost-cutting move. Now you're probably wondering if there is a question in here anywhere - and there is!My search showed that some people here have used flat dash kits. I am wondering how the edges are finished? Do they have any slight "wrap" or taper or finish on the edges or do they just look like a piece of flat stock cut with a [Dr. Evil mode] "laser" [end Dr. Evil mode]? I hope I'm making some sense here. If the door spear accents will work in the back, then there are some flat dash kits that I could use to dress up the window switch panels, center cup holder area and the top of the glove box. I don't want to get flat piece, however, if they just look like a flat piece of plastic stuck on to the car - especially on the glove box. If they do not have a finished edge, I may also try using a piece of chrome door edge guard or something similar to try and finish the edge where it would be most troubling - across the bottom of the piece that would go across the glove box.My vision:1. Use front door accents on the rear doors.2. Use a dash kit in gloss piano black for the window switch surrounds, center cupholders and across the top of the glove box (and maybe around the AC controls, glove box handle, etc).3. Black leather Katzkin seats with red piping and perforated inserts and see if I can get Maciek to match with a shift boot cover and center console cover. If those front door accents won't work on the back doors, then it's back to imagineering. If you made it this far - thanks for putting up with all my musings.

I enjoyed your post! If you do anything at all, take photos and tell us how you did it and what you used. Maybe some of the rest of us will give it a try.

Well, I measured the front and rear doors. Turns out the rear door length is a good three inches longer than the front, so the front accent piece won't work. At three inches shorter, it would certainly not look factory.Back to the drawing board.
