Something interesting happened with my Yokos

Post by ~MRVIBE2006~ »

About 4 weeks after I switched to my summer tires (Yokohama YK 520), I noticed a slight roar at just about any speed. I thought, in time, it would go away. I haven't had any issues with them yet and have had them for 2+ years. I stopped at my local Discount Tire and they said that they were wearing irregularly and offered to replace them. I said I use them as my summer tires and didn't know the exact mileage on the tires but had the info at home. So, tomorrow, I will be getting a new set of Goodyear Eagle GTs in the same size for about $320 (a prorated credit on the balalce of the warranty of the Yokos). Has anyone else had this happen with any other brand?Goodyear Eagle GT:

I've put about 5K miles on my Yokohamas since 11/08 and still like them alot. Did you keep the same rotational direction when making your seasonal changeover from the Dunlops?

I did the standard front to back, back to front on my Dunlops since they are directional tread. But I did do the 4 wheel rotation on my Yokos as they were done at Discount Tire. Not sure what or why they wore the way they did but this is something that you might keep an eye on them. I have about 27,000 miles on the set I have and they were supposed to have a 60,000 mile warranty. Just make sure you keep them rotated at Discount Tire and if anything does go wrong, you have the paperwork and proof that you did take care of them as recommended.

I'll do that. Thanks for the heads up. Did you read the post made buy Kowell on 05/30/09 in the "How long did your original Goodyear tires last?" thread? According to Kowell, GM is no longer recommending cross rotations.

My goodyear tripletreds got cupped, make an awful noise. I'm going to have to replace them soon, only about 60K miles on them. of course I want the best in all categories, wear like iron, MPG boosting, super grip, quiet, good in rain and snow. The hard part is deciding which of those fo comproimise on.

So, did they offer to try and fix whatever is causing the tires to wear funny? Or are they just "giving" you another set of tires for 320$..??? I smell fish and I don't like it.. If the car is in proper alignment, you shouldn't be wearing funny.. I bet you could get an alignment for 40-100$ and re-wear the tires back to something non-roaring in a few ... saving 200+$.. I can't say though, i'm not there...
