Hang on to our Vibes until they die

I guess Ive always planned on driving my Vibe until it stopped running(and the needed repair costs more than the vehicle is worth). Now that Pontiac is headed for oblivion and GM is about to go bankrupt, what do other folks on this forum plan to do?

That's been my plan too, don't see any reason to change at this point. Besides, I'm over 200K miles now, a new car woudl be nice but it would suck to have to start over with an empty odometer

Drive it till it dies!!! Dont want a car payment. I would rather put $3400 a year into my retirement account.

I always think I am going to keep a car for 10 years then an opportunity arises that I cannot refuse and there I go again. I upgraded my '03 Vibe with about 33,000 miles to a new '09 for about $3,800 due in part to discounts, rebates, incentives and a GM Card deal.Before that I upgraded my 45 mo old 2004 T&C with 22,000 miles to a new 2007 for about $5,700.The best time to buy a car is when you don't need a car.

It's still running decent. Since it'll be paid off this Summer, I figure I'd keep it till... Yearly Cost to Maintain >= Yearly Total Payments Were.If I can go at least 2 years past it being paid off without anything too major happening, I should have saved enough money to put a decent down-payment on something new... and if it's still going fine at that point, I'll extend that out as long as I can.Dave

I'm hoping to keep mine for a long time. Maybe get something new as a daily driver and then be able to turn my Vibe GT into my project car. Could have a lot of fun that way, and a lot of miles.

Funny thing when I bought my Vibe I thought I'd only hang onto it for at most 5 years. Then I kinda liked the idea of having no more car payments.So yeah, I'll be hanging on to this like my first car, a 1987 Dodge Shadow. Dodge abandoned the Shadow and the 2.2 liter platform in 1994.So in some sense what's happening to Pontiac reflects my previous experience.Just because Pontiac no longer will exist as an entity, doesn't mean my Vibe will stop working. I'll do what I can to keep up the maintenance, and add the occasional mod here or there and enjoy it for as long as I can keep it intact.

with me, it seems that if i have an eclipse, i some how sell the eclipse over the vibe. (then again, i have 3 kids. lol) And... instead of fixing up an eclipse, which i love, i have been workin on the vibe. i think ill keep mine until i can't afford the repairs anymore. Mine is an 06 with about 70,000 miles on it.

I'm still having such a mad love affair with my Vibe, i can't even contemplate giving her up. Although, after the 08's came out, I kinda resigned myself to the thought that my car wasn't being made anymore. Not that the newer Vibes aren't Vibes, they're just not *my* Vibe

This is my first new car,and its paid for too.I still only have 8200 miles on it and its over a year old.I think I will keep this car for 20 years.It has manual doors and windows,so I don't have to worry about that beaking down,and its just the 1.8 so it shouldn't be too expensive to work on(if it needs it) down the road.If it can last me 15 years at 8,000 miles per year,thats only 120,000 miles.

My target is usually 10 years. I sold a 94 Accord at 14 years and 160K miles. I had to do a transmission overhaul at 120K, cost 2 grand. Normally I would not have done it for MY car, but this was my high school son's car at the time (mine when new), and we had dropped collision and the savings on car insurance for a male teenager made it worth it. When getting ready to go off to college and 200 mile drive, we got him a wrecked 04 Acura RSX, and fixed it back up and he still drives it. Detour over.But my target is 10 years. At that point, if no major repairs due, cruise along. But I find it hard to put $ 2K into a 10 year old vehicle.

I think we'll have ours until its dying day. At least thats the plan anyways. We kind of have to really since I replaced the bent up hood with an SLP one and sold the OEM rims. I think its trade in value would be pretty low without being able to return it to stock. As for trying to sell it..... forget about it .... I sold my last 3 vehicles and I'm done with that headache.

Right now Mine is 3 years old to the date, has under 50k on it. i have thought of getting one of the last models in 2010 because any excess that is left; hopefully GM would want to almost give away, since Pontiac is apparently a "bad" asset, but the opportunity has to be just right.Also, i like to get at least a year out of my car after it is paid off:)
