A match made in Vibe heaven?

Post by bonzo4ever »

Ever since I started looking for a Vibe or Matrix over 2 years ago, and particularly since I finally purchased one last year, I've had one major itch for a project - And All Wheel Drive Vibe GT rally car. To me, the new body style, the existence of all wheel drive in the lineup, and the horsepower possibilities with the 2ZZ, all add up to a killer Rally car for the WRC. I thought for sure Toyota would have jumped at the possibility, or Pontiac would have to revive the brand (too late for that now, I guess). Am I crazy? Or has someone out there already built this Frankenstein? And if so, how awesome is it? Someday (when there's money, of course), I am seriously thinking about getting my hands on an AWD Vibe without an engine and building a 2ZZ for it. Has anybody out there already made it happen? Sincerely, Crazy idea guy J.B.

I think you would be further ahead, taking the drivetrain from a Celica AllTrac. I just think you would have to beef everything up on the Matrix/Vibe AWD drivetrain and there are already some Corolla and Celica drivetrains that have been race proven. I agree it would be awesome to marry them together tho. Nothing like 4 wheel burnouts.

The power potential in the VVTL-i is definitely there. Retune the engine for racing, tack on a turbo setup...and life get's good. It would be a lot of fun, that's for sure.
