transmission problems in wet weather

Post by dallairl »

Hi all.... I own a 2003 Pontiac Vibe (lowest model). Works like a top until I get to into heavy rain (wet weather)!!! This has happened 4 times since I bought the car in May 06. It happened again on the weekend of Apr. 3rd 09. Coming home from Bangor Me. to Moncton NB (CDN). Here is what happens, and this is what I did...1) Tac begins to spikes up a bit, and car speeds up.2) Tac spikes up, but car does not speed up! Took the trans. off of O/D. worked OK for a couple of miles. Usually at this point... "service engine soon" light comes on.3) As it got worse (meaning transmissin slipping more) I would switch to a lower gear and slowly increase speed. I was able to cruise at 80Kms / hour... tac reading just below 4000 rpm.4) Pulled over in Houlton Me. for gas. Transmission performs well in city driving. Continue on with my drive. Car works well for about 20 kms. into Canada, then starts to act up again. Same as above. Sometimes when the slipping is really bad I have to pull off of the road, come to a complete stop, then proceed again slowly increasing speed.5) Arrive in Fredericton, stay for the night. Next morning, go to store... car works great (city driving, Service engine soon light still on).6) Around noon time, leave for Moncton... rain is basically stopped, service engine soon light is OFF, and the car works 100%! Until the next heavy wet rain fall.Is anyone experiencing this???? Sure would like to hear from you.Later.....

never heard of that... but it sounds electrical. almost like a open wire or loose connection that the water touches then creates bad grounds or just freaks the electrical out.
