whats your personal pref? i used to think that monotone was the way to go but after look at my 2-tone vibe that is laval / grey plastic, it grew on me. now when i see a monotone lava vibe it just looks odd to see the plastic painted lava color, i dunno other colors may look good monotone but i feel that 2-tone looks better for some odd reason
I think everyone is going to say their preference is going to be what they own. The only way you could get an honest opinion is to ask someone who doesn't already have a Vibe. I have a monotone Neptune and love it. I don't think the two tone Neptune looks bad, I just prefer the monotone look. I like that the door handles and the strip above the license plate are also painted to match.

Yeah, it's a personal preference thing. I like the looks of the monotone Vibes but I wanted the druability of the unpainted parts (no paint chips).Lava was my second choice of colors with Neptune being a close third. I think all the colors look good both ways.
I like it both ways...monotone probably looks a tad more sporty but for my money the cladding is the sensible (no paint chip) way to go.....and im not sold on the durability of the paint on the plastic either. i love my cladded bumpers....and when i have to parrallel park sometimes at school its ok b/c i dont get damaged like i would if i had painted bumpers....(to parallel park, the folks here reverse until they hit the car behind them, and thats when they know to pull forward....arghh....good thing the cladding doesnt get hurt!).....just ordered the mudflaps today to avoid getting the sandblast effect around the wheel wells. -Phil

hehe ....they feel it alright!! seriously no respect....not a good place for painted bumpers....b/c if they are painted now, then they wont be painted for long! -Phil

I like that the door handles and the strip above the license plate are also painted to match.Nope. Monotone looks far better. People who have two tone will say they prefer it, but really they don't. They know monotone looks far better but are in denial. They know they blew it and bought the wrong car, but will never admit it. I don't blame them. No sense going through life in deep regret about your car. I compare the two tone to a mullet, also called a 'Yup Nope'. Just as a mullet is fine for people who just can't decide if they want long or short hair, a two tone is great for people who just can't make up their mind on a color for their car. This is not just my opinion, this is fact.
quote:...This is not just my opinion, this is fact. Somehow I get the feeling you're just being "flame bait", but you got my attention. I don't regret for one minute getting the two-tone. I wanted monotone neptune when I bought my car, but mine was the only GT on the lot. After looking it over for a while, I decided I liked it enough to buy it (that and the dealer was willing to pay a bit more for my Saturn if I would take this Vibe). I've never once thought I made a mistake. The two-tone shadow matches very well and I like the contrast from the black door handles against the gray. I'm very happy with my car and wouldn't have it any other way! It really is all about the opinion. I like the Vibe in either form.
haha...flame bait....hahaFACT: I would have actually paid MORE for my Vibe to get the cladding.....painted bumpers would suck big balls for my lifestyle...the car would look like CRAP so so fast!!!Now...I actually had a '93 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the limited edition w/ the Pimp Package (black painted bumpers and gold trim all around) and i wish I had gotten a Jeep Laredo w/ the unpainted bumpers....the Jeep still looks alright but the paint has worn off all the bumpers and molding and of course the road-rash has left its mark.....ok....many marks....the cladding just looks better longer!!FLIP-SIDE: If I was, like most peeps, buying a Vibe for a city commuter car (If my life were nothing like it is) and the then I think the monotone looks more sporty and I would definately get it.......ok, heres your flame bait......monotone does make it look more like a mini-van........matrix is the same story! At least until you put wheels (nice big round things w/ little-bitty tires) on them....then they look PHAT!! hehe -Phil

yeahwell now that the "facts" have been stated heh i dont know what made me change my mind i guess it could just be because i own one and got accustomed to seeing it w/ the grey plastic. When i saw one that was full painted it just didnt look right for some reason. anyone with a mono notice that? or is that just plain crazy
Well....IMHO i have the best of both worlds ....my vibe has the durability of the cladding and almost the looks of monotone as it is the Shadow color....check out the color match....pretty close!!

I like the 2-tone on my Vibe. It stops me from wanting to customize it from the outside. It gives it the rugged look. I just wish it came with bigger wheels and I could have put a grill infront of it...just like on an SUV.
2003 Pontiac VibeSalsaPower PackageSports PackageK&N Air Filter
hmm well i guess with the grey cladding the vibe does look much more like an SUV that a sports wagon .. i dont know why exactly... but it seems to look that way
I had two dealers search a 300 mile radius for a monotone Vibe when I purchased mine, but they had no luck. I really wished they could have found a monotone GT, but that is life. What sucks is they received the same car the next week but in monotone. I was about ready to do the stupid thing and trade mine in, but then again it's better to whip Civics with a grady bumper station wagon. LOL
quote:I'll admit it, I love the frosty white with the cladding - yes, better than my monotone Abyss - it really accentuates the styling. But I'm not willing to trade with anyone OK, well as long as we're all being honest here ... I'll admit that as smooth as my Frosty monotone looks I really like the monotone Salsa - it just looks a bit more agressive, and it's so fun to say "Salsa!" Of course, I'm not willing to trade anyone either Oh, and for all those in denial thinking two-tone looks better - maybe we should start a support group.

This board needs some 'spice' sometimes. BTW, do you have a mullet?

Yeah (*sniff, sniff*) can't we all just be friends? Really the 2 tone and monotone variants are what make the Vibes we all drive unique. How many other cars can look like a totally different class of vehicle just because a couple of body panels are painted (or not)?
