2009 Vibe production cut-off

Post by j42.snyder »

I just purchased my 2009 Vibe a couple of weeks ago - and I'm wondering if it may have been one of the last 2009's to roll off of the line.Although I'm not sure of the exact official production date, apparently the front seats were manufactured on Feb. 19/09, and the carpeting on the 18th, so I would think it would have to be not much later than that. The car arrived at the lot in Niagara Falls on March 9th.I was told that 2010 production started in February - but does anyone know the official start date?I'm just curious - not really all that important. If anyone knows exactly how to find out the production date of the car, I'd be interested to know. My older Mopars ('70s and earlier) had a fender tag with the date stamped onto it - but all I've found on most newer cars is simply the month/year inside the driver's door. Thanks in advance,John

When we took the public factory tour of NUMMI, one of the employees took us aside afterwards (I had indicated that we owned some of their products), gave us some Pontiac Vibe T-shirts and asked if we had the VIN numbers. Later she emailed us 'birth certificates' for the cars that indicated the exact minute when they rolled off the assembly line. They no longer had records for our '87 Nova which was also made at NUMMI.They don't give tours anymore, but presumably still have the records to associate the VIN to the production date and time. I'd start by calling their general information number ((510) 498-5500) unless someone here has a better contact.

It's amazing how fast things come from the suppliers to the plant for final assembly. If you can't find the date through NUMMI the various components that are dated will probably be quite close. With just-in-time inventory, parts must not stick around much at the plant before they're slapped on a vehicle. The Hyundai I have is one of the few I've seen that include the build day/month/year on the door frame tag. I've found all kinds of parts on it dated within a few days of the build date, in some cases the day before.
