Help with map light

Post by john351 »

I just bought my daughter an 03 vibe. The map light is in the unit in the headliner with the switches for the moon roof. The bulb is burned out and I can't figure out how to access it. The lens doesn't have any notches that make it appear to pop out and I took the retaining screw out of the unit but it won't come out of the headliner. I'm afraid of damaging something any body have any ideas? Thanks, John

i believe there are two screws. Been a while since i dropped the light. once the screws are out it's held in by spring clips to the headliner.

This one only has one screw and I figured there had to be clips but I can't find them and don't know how to release them

take out the one screw you can see, and then pull hard enough to remove the cover. The whole cover comes off, if you try to just remove the clear lens you'll booger it upOne other thing to think about, on these cars, the switch to turn that map light on will act up if it doesn''t get used. There was another thread on this soemwhere, but just this morning I went to turn that light on in mine, and it didn't come on, so I hit the button about thirty times. After the first ten, the bulb would light up but wouldn't stay on, after thirty, it seemed to be cycling on and off as desired. So try that too, unless you know for sure the bulb is burned out.

I noticed that issue on my center and rear dome as well. AFter some cycling, no issues. Def try that first. Possibly a simple solution.
