Shattered Back Hatch 2009 Weather Related?

Post by redhot09 »

I had something weird happen on Friday, a buddy and I got into my car closed the doors at the same time and boom the back window shattered and fell out. It had been really cold out for about a week (4-10 degrees out ) That afternoon it was about 20. What do you think is this a warranty issue or just stupid weather related what are my chances of Pontiac to reimburse me for the deductible? I called the dealer and the window is like 960.00 if they can get it....LOL that is a small window for a grand.

Probably a combination of really cold shrinking the seals and both of you closing your doors at once that created a sudden pressure wave inside the car. I doubt it will be a warranty covered incedent.

It wouldn't be a warranty issue unless you could prove the glass was defective. otherwise Insurance

For your sake I hope that is covered under comprehensive/glass breakage. My policy on that is $50 deductible. I had to tell my bro-in-law that he didn't need to slam my door shut - unlike his pos Ford the Vibe doors do not have to be slammed hard to close properly.

Definitely looks like tight car syndrome. Leave one of your back door windows slightly open. A millimeter will do the trick. Then feel free to slam away. I would see if Pontiac wouldn't cover that on a new car. In this climate of decreasing sales volume, they might be willing to go that little extra bit. Customer satisfaction is a good thing, and happy customers come back to buy again in most cases. Auto manufacturers are looking for ways to save money, so thinner glass might be a result. Thinner glass may be easier to pop like that?

That happened to a friend of mine 30 years ago with his Honda Accord hatchback. Up in the mountains in the cold, closed the hatch and the window shattered.

sorry that happened redhot09. I hope everyone realizes that the rear hatch actually closes very easily and should not be slammed. I have to keep yelling at my family, who is used to slamming the 03 Vibe's doors all the time. The 09 does not take as much effort. As for the customer service comment, I'm still rolling on the floor laughing about that one..............GM??? Customer Service........you're killing me
