Aftermarket in-dash navigation

Post by Vibetrix »

Last night, someone smashed my window and stole my Garmin GPS navigator. (I usually remembered to remove it from my dashboard, but not this time.)In addition to the window, I want to replace the navigator as soon as possible. I already was interested in buying a new audio head unit (mainly to have an auxiliary input), and I'm wondering whether something like this would be compatible with my 2004 Vibe. In case it matters, I have the Moon & Tunes package. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi and welcome.. Yep, it's compadible with your M&T but you need a LOC (Line Output Converter) to go with the other install things... I think what you want is called a PAC-2... there are other discussions here about it... You do realize that going with a double DIN screen like that does this for you... Just about like leaving the Navi on the dash... only a heck of a lot more expensive... Great unit though, herd a lot of good things about it.. IF you can keep the thieves away..

Thanks for the tip! Can you please link me to the part that I need? (I searched past discussions and came up empty.)Instead of the Pioneer unit, I've decided to go with this one from Kenwood, as it features Garmin navigation. I assume that this has no effect on the issue that you've brought to my attention, but I'm mentioning it just to make sure.Yes, I realize that this also will be a theft target, but my insurance policy covers up to $1,000 worth of installed electronic devices (but not portable devices like the Garmin navigator that I just had stolen).

Why not go with a single din flip up version? Reduces the theft likelyhood.

I haven't seen any single-DIN models that I like nearly as much. In particular, the Garmin navigation (to which I'm already accustomed) is a very attractive feature. I viewed a video demonstration of Pioneer's navigation, and it appeared vastly inferior to Garmin's. (Pioneer's entertainment functionality might be better than Kenwood's, but that's nowhere near as important to me.)So I'm willing to take the chance. I have a $250 deductible, so that's the most that I stand to lose as a result (in the event of another break-in).

Can someone please point me to the line output converter that I'll need? I still haven't managed to find any of the relevant discussions.

I'd tried searching for line output converter and loc, but not line converter. I see that the recommended model is the Scosche FAI-3A, which I'll order immediately.Just to make sure that I'm not omitting a necessary component, here's a list of everything else that I've purchased:Kenwood DNX5120Kenwood KCA-BT200 Bluetooth add-onKenwood KCA-iP300V iPod cableIn-dash receiver kitWire harnessAntenna adapterI'm not interested in satellite/HD radio or a backup camera. Should I be good to go?

Not that I normally recommend Wally world for stereo installation parts.Diane
