Thoughts on spraying clear over decals?

I bought some new center cap overlays from Grafxwerks to replace the ones I have had for awhile. The old ones started to peel and come apart, thus the need for replacements. What I was wondering is if putting a few coats of gloss clear paint over them would help protect them a bit more? Any thoughts on this?

I can't answer your question, but I have a similar one, just change it to overlays on the engine cover.
