Sputnik was Rear Ended!

Post by Sputnik »

My precious vibe was rear ended tonight by a Saab - but! NO Damage at all... hardly even a mark on the bumper. Whew!

Oh yes I'm fine. I've never been hit before - although it was more like a nudge I suppose. My boyfriend is the one who said "we've been hit"... I wasn't sure what had happened. I'm very glad there was nothing wrong with my Vibe.

Glad to hear everyone is OK! Did you check under the bumper for any non-immediate damage (brackets, bent steel, etc.)?

Hmm... no I didn't do that. Guess I should have done that. I couldn't even tell where on my bumper he had hit.

soory to hear that..... gald to hear everyone is ok.... I also think you should have the dealer or a person you trust to look around to ensure none of the bumpers parts were damage in the collision. the exteriour plastic can look completely unscathed in a collision but some of the underlying parts (desigend to absorb the impact) can be compromised. Just a little of my knowledge. Collision Analyst/investigator...

sputnik, I'm very sorry to hear about your Vibe being "nudged" in the rear. At least nobody was hurt and it doesn't even sound like your car would have any damage from what you describe, but it is best to have it checked out underneath just to be sure.

So sorry to hear of your misfotune but I'm glad you weren't hurt and that Sputnik was not damaged . I guess ol Sput's a real tough cookie. If you would of had the monotone paint --I'm sure there would of been a paint chip. But the type of cladding you have is more durable.Anyway make her feel better by giving her a wash & wax.And yes -- Take her to the car doctor to make sure she is OK. James (Vibe)

Sorry to hear about your incident. I'm glad everyone is ok though including the Vibe. I agree that you should have it checked out for any damage that you may not be able to see. You don't want any surprises or anything.

The plastic bumpers are fairly strong to handle a mediocre accident, but that doesn't mean the stuff underneath is okay. You said that you didn't even know you were in an accident until your boyfriend said something. So that tells me it probably wasn't a great impact one. However, I would be looking at the rear end crumple zones to make sure none of them buckled. When my first Matrix was totalled, the front end of it looked perfectly fine until you opened the hood and saw all the damage that was hidden.-Slink

Lucky you. It's great to know that nobody was hurt.My Vibe was hit in the corner of the dealer (on the rear too), yeah! a few minutes old. D'oh!At first I couldn't realize anything, but a little crack on the bumper, I got the papers of the other driver, fortunatelly. The total has gone over $1100, new bumper, painting job, etc.. the weird thing is that the bumper crashed but nothing else was broken, not even slightly deformed. I guess this mono-color thing is not as good idea, when speaking of little crashes. The other guy was driving slow, around 5 MPH but it was a pick up truck, so a lot of weigth, I guess. Not a good start for our vibe, but nobody was hurt and so far, I really enjoy this car!
