I've read on another topic something about auto shifting, but I don't want to grave dig, and it's sort of unrelated to the topic. I noticed about a 2 second lag when shifting from L or 2 to the next gear. I'm pretty sure getting a better clutch reduces lag in manual transmission....or that a flywheel? Anyways, I was wondering if there is anything I can do to reduce the lag for my automatic transmission?
Ive driven automatic with the triptronic shifting in an audi, mazda and gm cars. They ALL had lag, but at least the mazda and audi kept the gear you chose.. Shift kits and a better torq converter and valve body help shift, I think the shift kit only makes it shift slightly faster/harder. The triptronic is electronic and I think that is the limiting factor, its a passenger car, only high end cars with it seem to shift smoothly.
Autos are not really designed to shift like manual transmissions so you do get some lag. When you shift manually the changes in the manual valve causes a large change in the hydraulic flows in the valve body which can result in quite a bit of lag.You can improve things a little bit by changing the springs in the shift valve bores and also by raising the line pressure a little bit. You can buy shift kits for helping with this - not sure if there is one for the Vibe.
Not really sure if they make "shift Kits" for japanese cars,at least not like the older american muscle tranny's.What they do make is an upgraded Valve body, which is reworked and comes with heavier springs.I have this on mine and it does make faster shifts,it wasn't what I expected. At least not compared to the shift kit I installed in my turbo 400 in my Chevelle. The transmission in the Vibe isn't made for performance so I would just live with it.Unless the rebuild kit from either level 10 or IPT does a better job,I don't know since I didn't get mine rebuilt, just semi-tweaked.

getting a new 09 GT tomorrow. question about the taptronic shifting...while you have it in drive, and moving... can you nudge it over into the tapshift station? or do you have to start out moving in that position?

It will go into 4th automatically in either case. If you're stopped, you need to manually tap it down to 1st to get started.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the flip-shifter in the 09 5-speed was originally designed for a mid-size Camry. I was discussing the weird shifting with some family who work in the auto industry yesterday and the possibility was raised that this drive train might still be mostly programmed for a mid-sized Camry with 5 passengers in it. They may not have tweaked it at all or at least not very thoroughly for the smaller vibe. That might explain the shifting and the accelerator to some extent.
