check engine light

Post by jpandpj »

I have a 2005 Vibe with 23,000 miles on it and my check engine light just went on. Anyone have any major issues with this? Is this an ongoing problem? How worried should I be?

Could be a number of things, really... from a simple gas cap loose on up. I don't know if the auto parts stores still do free OBD-II scanning, may be worth a shot to see if you can get the code read. One of the more common things people have check engine lights come on for are bad catalytic converters (code P0420) but that shouldn't be happening for quite a while - usually 100,000+ mi. I'd say you're safe from that one. Good luck and welcome!

PO420 is one of the most common codes. It usually isn't a bad cat but an o2 sensor or vacuum leak. PO171 is common or 300-304, misfire codes from dirty injectors.

you cant assume much with a cel. It also cannot be associated with a certain mileage on the vehicle. Just go to a local auto store and get the code read off of it and post it up. We can go from there...otherwise it could be 1 of 10293805805945023572058973 things
