Reving to high

Post by dragn88 »

New to the forum, I've had my base 09 vibe since the end of September. 1.8L w/4sped auto. It's running 3200rpm @ 120km/h on the highway. Does anyone else feel that this is excessive rpms for the speed? Anyone can compare their rpm's at this speed? Those of you who have the 1.8L with the 5speed manual how many rpm's are you running at this speed?Current mileage 33mpg avg city 28-32mpg avg hwy

That sounds similar to the 5-speed we have. 3200rpm in a small four isn't too bad. I once had an escort GT that would be at nearly 4000rpm at 120 km/h

On the 1.8L auto vibe's I just don't see why they didn't throw one more gear in to at least bring the revs down to 2800 or so. Cause i'm sorry but highway speed around here is 110 - 120km/h if your slower than that your getting run over. just my 0.02On a second note i've never had a car that gets worse mileage on the highway than in the city. The window sticker claimed 35mpg city and 46mpg highway. So I figured i'd get 28-30 in the city and 38 or so on the highway. First few tanks of gas all city driving I was getting 33-36mpg. First long trip down the highway I got a measly 31mpg. I was a bit disappointed because my mileage is so close to the window sticker rating in the city but so far away from the claimed highway mileage.Kevin
