I know I'm not the only one who tracks their cars and since some of us have sedans and some have wagons (here, mostly wagons), not all solutions work for both. I had a cruisecam headrest mount in the Legacy and sold that thinking I could not use it in the 08 STI. Of course, now that it's a hatch, it has headrests. In an effort to make 2 mounts (one for our 07 STI and one for the 08 STI), I did a little research online. Here's what I found:Sedans:Children Tie Down BracketWagons/Hatches (use with the headrests):InstructionsPDF FileI bought a nice ball mount from Ritz camera for just under $30. I'll let you know how they turn out following these instructions.
the wagon/hatch cam idea is nice and can be MUCH easier... You simply have to pull the headrest and mark where the rods for it would pass THROUGH the aluminum stock... then you simply make the holes JUST big enough for it to slide through the aluminum... no need for the extra hardware...
that gives too much vibration. Ive done that before. you need the support bar to be completely immobile otherwise the vid looks like hell. or maybe the bar i used was just offsized and wouldnt let the headrest clup down tight on it.
i would suggest using something like heatshrink for the u bolts so they can absorb some of the vibration or it will rattle and be extremely annoying. Even with the current mount, I used one of those sponge type packing pnuts to mush under the quick release bracket so it wouldn't rattle. I didn't tie the camera down so I still had a little vibration, but to be somewhat expected due to the rough surface we were rallying on.
