Total n00b who doesn't know where to start with 2005 Vibe and aftermarket audio

Post by scottymcd »

Hello,Forgive my total ignorance but I don't even know where to begin to replace my factory audio system. I've got a 2005 Vibe and I have no idea whether it's "Moon & Tunes" or not. All I want to do is hook up an iPod using a front line-in stereo mini jack, nothing fancy. Can someone please point me in the direction of an inexpensive yet fairly reliable solution? I don't mind doing the installation myself as long as it's straight-forward. On the other hand, I don't mind paying someone else to do this if there's a good chance I'll mess it up.I skimmed through the sticky threads in this forum and, although I'm normally pretty technical, I'm lost when it comes to audio systems and cars in particular. Thanks!Scott

Thanks Kevzaz, I appreciate the response but that list means nothing to me. I'm fairly certain I have the base audio system but that's where my knowlege ends.Would anyone be willing to explain what the descriptions under "Generic AUX input" and "iPOD" represent? Like I said, total n00b. Thanks again.Scott

Scott - quick! Count the number of CD's you can put in the car at one time. Then, count the number of speakers (including door tweeters near the mirrors). If your car takes 6-CDs, it's moons and tunes. If it is single disc but has 6 speakers, it's moons and tunes. There are items listed under generic aux that are just a 3.5mm inline input. They are compatible with the stereo designations assigned in the list above that. The iPod ones are more specific to iPods, allowing you to change songs, etc through the iPod adapter. Since you have an iPod, you can use any of the components (if its listed in the compatibility list on the manufacturers website). If you are like me and have something else (like a Zune), then you need the generic aux input...
