Computer Guru Question

Post by zionzr2 »

I have some old 850MB Hard Drives that have come into my possesion and they appear to be empty. I was wondering if someone knows of a good Free program that could read the drive for data that may still be on the drive that wasnt actually erased even if it was previously deleted. I also Have a drive or two that I would like to see if the eraser program I have used on them is actually doing what it claims.

those programs look ok, but to be safe the best thing you can do is to format it, then fill it completely with either a random hash or just random 0's and 1's, and format again. even do this 2x or more. data can linger on a HDD if it is "deleted". the only true way to remove it from the HDD is to overwrite it with something else. i am looking for a program that does this currently, if i find one i'll post the link.looks like dban does just that.
None. Vibe is gone.

those programs have DoD formatting...which is almost the best you can get besides ruining the hdd..... they do the 0's and format that over 27 times.OH you want to recover? Well there are some linux apps (free) to recover but unfortunately the best windows recovery apps cost money I have a couple....but dont remember their names. One is from Ontrack, I may have a free one too....I have to hunt brb
