Removing door molding?

Anyone know what the procedure is for taking off the little moldings on the doors? Are they just stuck on by adhesive or is there going to be a couple of holes left if I take it off? I've been studying the Vibe GXP and I like how clean the sides of the car looks without those little pieces. I also spent the day polishing and waxing the whole car and it would be a little easier without them. And it's one more way that I can make my Vibe a little more unique, cause I'm seeing a lot of them around lately.

your talking about the plastic cladding on the outside i take it, right? i believe there has been a post or two about people wanting to do that.

It's held on by glue, but I believe there are also a couple of locating pins that go through the sheetmetal. I thought I saw them when I took the door panel off. I think you might be able to see them in this post:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=7852nd picture from the bottom labeled front door.

Thank's! Your right, I'm talking about the door protector strip of plastic. So I guess it's not worth it if there's going to be holes in the door.

And it protect against door bump from other in a parking lot.But the trouble is this stripe is highter then the average of other car, so the door bumps right under the strip. DARN!!!

I've got a ton of marks on my passenger side molding - I think its doing the job for me. No marks on the door itself... methinks my apartment parking neighbour doesn't care much for my car when she gets in hers. Honda Civic hatchback driver... she's probably jealous of my beauty.

I just noticed that there's relatively big scratch on my car too !&##$^@#$%@#^#$Luckily, the strip did its job and my door was fine.I find it to be not so easy to clean the gap between the strip and the door panel itself but whatever. BTW, can the strip be easily replaced ? thanks

The molding has plastic locating pins and is held with double sided tape from 3M. The secret is that the tape sticks lick stink to a monkey because of a spray called promoter, which is applied to the molding where the tape will be laid. I know this because I design and build the electrical panels that control these kind of machines, mainly for chrysler. If the molding is not sprayed, the tape will not adhere to it. If it is sprayed you will not be able to remove it.

"sticks lick stink to a monkey" probably meant sticks LIKE stink to a monkey, perhaps a way of saying that it is very difficult, if not impossible to remove.

It is held on by adhesive only.However, I don't know how difficult it is to remove it. There must be some method of removing it for when they need to be replaced...they can't be permanantly attached...but it may require a chemical of some sort that is only available from GM...
