I just purchased my 2004 Vibe: Windshield Washer pump issues

Post by battlebuddy777 »

Hi All,Great site! After having 4 other vibes sold out from under me, I finally purchased my Vibe. It has 53,000 miles on it and was GM certified last year. I talked the dealer down from 12,995 to under 10,000. He through in a military discount and I used that to buy a 36/45 certified warranty. My plan is for a total tune up, but that will have to wait. A few issues I am currently having:1. front end vibration when 80 MPH is reached2. front windshield washer pump not working3. only one key and no FAB4. my 9 yr old son thinks it's a station wagonI suspect that it needs a front end alignment and tire rotation, but it does not pull to either side while driving.I checked the washer spray ports and they are not clogged. I tried to locate the washer pump??? (did not get a manual)The dealer did not have the original FAB and only one key. I checked out Midwest wireless key on EBAY, but not sure if they are reliable for the price (29.99 for the FAB and an extra key)I tried opening up the sunroof, driving at night so he could be mesmerized by the dash lights and bass during his favorite song, but he says it still looks like a station wagon that completed Jenny Craig...LOL

Keep an eye on the tire wear to see if an alignment is needed. But if the wear is even and it doesn't pull to the side then it's probably ok.2) Not sure where the pump is located. There's a service manual for the Toyota Matrix at:http://matrixowners.com/and almost everything is the same in the Vibe.3) The key is just a standard key that any hardware store should be able to duplicate for a buck or two - have them use a Toyota blank. Not sure on the best source for the remote fob.4) Yup, that's what it is - and why we bought a couple of them.

Thanks for the quick response.I will check out the matrix manual.Tires are inflated to recommended pressures, but it just might be the balance too. Thanksfluids all topped off. The back pump works fine and pulls the fluid without problems.

My Vibe NEVER had a remote when I bought it used either. Two years ago I asked the mechanic inspecting it if it was wired for remote and he said no and that's expensive to add. I just now learned that if you need to know if your used Vibe is wired for remote they can check the VIN so after reading Genvibe I bought a Toyota Matrix remote for 2003-2004 models and it worked on my 2004 Vibe. I only paid 16.99 + shipping. I got it from http://www.CarandTruckRemotes.com and it came with clear instructions but I had to repeat them three times for the program to work. It has the red panic button on the back. So it has 4 buttons total: lock, unlock, hatch glass, and panic on the back.

This may seem silly and obvious, but it happened to me so I'll throw it out there. Bought my 03 GT used with no key fab as well. Dealer said they never had it. Couple days later I'm poking around inside the cabin exploring the many compartments and I found it down at the bottom of the center console, near the second charger. You never know.I've had some chronic alignment issues on mine as well, and the vibration at high speeds. Got an alignment from a place that guarantees it for a year and went back twice more to have it re-done. Finally bought new tires about a month ago and it went away altogether. Welcome, btw, you made a good choice

Dont drive 80! Probably need an alignment and wheel balance. BTW: You will get the best MPGs under 70mph.2. Might need a new one.3. Go to the hardware store and get as many copies made as you need. Ebay usally has FOBs you can reprogram to work.4. Your son is correct! It is a Wagon.

Profit? (sorry, had to.) if you want pictures i can do that for you also.

try this out. change the power cables between the pumps. then go into the car and press the switches. if the front now works and the back doesn't you need to replace it. also listen for a wirrring noise. if it isn't there you need to replace. (if it doesn't make sense i'll post again later. very tired right now.)and prathman, the vibe doesn't wear tires evenly, the front passenger one wears more quickly. at least that's how mine is and i recall others saying too

Thanks for all of the great advice. I not only got a great car, but it seems like my obsession with the Vibe is a shared psychosis..lolI don't see the Vibe as a wagon...it is more of a sports car with lots of space to store all of my Army gear hmm... I guess I could call it my battle wagon. That sounds better than "station". Station indicates no motion and this really moves. One more question: I need to polish out the scratches on the plexi glass head light covers...any recommendations?
