Outlet blows fuses

Post by alandra »

The outlet on my 2004 Vibe wasn't working, so I checked the fuse. It was blown, so I put in a new one. I plugged in a cell phone charger, and it blew again. Any ideas as to what could be wrong?Just tried to put another fuse in. I can hear it blow as soon as I push the button to turn the outlet on.

Something is shorted internally, maybe something somehow got down into the plug area? or a pinched wire... you might have to take some things apart and have a look..

I'd try plugging something else first to rule out problems with the cell charger.Quote, originally posted by alandra »The outlet on my 2004 Vibe wasn't working, so I checked the fuse. I've tried different things, and it's not the cell phone charger that's the problem.

I've taken it apart, and there's nothing obviously pinched or shorted out.Quote, originally posted by Sublimewind »Something is shorted internally, maybe something somehow got down into the plug area? or a pinched wire... you might have to take some things apart and have a look..

There are so many devices that run off of this same fuse. The radio included. So there is a large strain on said fuse and it clan blow rather easily. I've already blown it while using my cigarette lighter. I just don't use it anymore. I've had the same problem with the 1992 S-10 I had and the 1974 Nova I had before it. You could try wiring the outlet separately and giving it its own fuse.
